I met Parvathy Baul at Odin Teatret in 2009. Her singing captivated me and despite my shyness, i didn't hesitate to ask if i could visit her, and so I set off on my first trip to India. Since then we have met many times at her ashram in India and in my theatre in Denmark , and eventually decided to create a show together: Like a Lily. An unexpected path, a gift from life. The last time I visited the ashram with my son was in 2024, I was fortunate enough to hear Baul Masters sing. But what was it about them that touched me so deeply? It wasn't they precision or their dancing, it was the way they spoke of love through song. Each in their own unique and profound way. Sharing a stage with Parvathy meant Haya life experience the singing transported us to another dimension, and that dimension has remained within me.
